Spotlight on Eucalyptus Oil

March 25, 2019

Eucalyptus oil, a must have basic in any essential oil collection.

Eucalyptus oil is obtained from fresh leaves of the tall, evergreen eucalyptus tree (Eucalyptus globulus) and primarily sourced from Australia.

The potent medicinal benefits of eucalyptus oil are due to a compound called eucalyptol (also known as1,8 cineole), which has antimicrobial properties and is known to improve immunity.

Everyone is most likely familiar with vapor rubs and this oil is commonly used in a variety of over-the-counter drugs including rubs, inhalers, liniments, rash creams, and mouthwashes.

Eucalyptus oil increases circulation to the brain and opens up the airways to ease congestion and pressure, colds, flu, fever and bronchitis. It's also a great essential oil to use in massage or other topical blends to ease muscular pain.

  • Add a few drops of the oil to hot water and inhale the steam.  Just remember to close your eyes the entire time your face is over the water to avoid burning them with the powerful fumes

  • Add a couple of drops straight onto your pillow especially if you are feeling blocked.

  • Eucalyptus Oil may also be applied topically diluted in a carrier oil like coconut as a chest rub for extended relief of upper respiratory congestion and other symptoms. It is not advised to put straight onto sensitive skin as it will burn.

  • If you have children who are studying, this oil into a diffuser will help with brain fog and mental clarity.

These are just a few ideas, but its uses are endless … a couple of drops onto a hanging plant basket … mixed with baking soda and sprinkled into your smelly gym shoes … on a warm cloth onto the forehead to relieve congestion .... in your bin liner,

My favourite is in my diffuser, mixed with peppermint because it's a great circulation stimulator, I always use it when I am doing administration like taxes and counting - it keeps me feeling light and focused.
